The Crowes in San Diego
Although it was a very chilly and cloudy night, Humphrey's was an amazing venue for the Crowes on Friday, May 21st. Citizen Band, the opening band, played a really good 30 minute set and was not bad though. The Crowes really impressed me with their musicianship, having a good lineup from their old as well as new material. I was grateful that they played a lot from Shake Your Money Maker ("Jealous Again" and "Hard to Handle"), Amorica ("A Conspiracy", "Ballad in Urgency" and "Wiser Time"), and The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion ("Remedy", "Thorn in My Pride", and "Sometimes Salvation"). Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with their newer, post By Your Side era. I was disappointed that the Crowes did not play anything from By Your Side, although that album was panned by critics and die hard fans. It is my favorite album. Playing a couple of tunes from By Your Side would have livened up the night a little, although I have very little to complain about since the playing was phenomenal. I especially was impressed with how some tunes flowed into another tune, which was awesome as well. When they come back, I would definitely see the Crowes again, but they better play some tunes from By Your Side with a complete Horn Section, Mardi Gras style!
